Amos Burn was born in Hull on New Year’s Eve, 1848. He left Hull as a teenager to join his brother in a merchant company in Liverpool. He died on 25th November 1925. He had had an outstanding chess career and was for many years the strongest player in Britain. Indeed, in the 1890s, he was arguably second only to Steinitz amongst the world’s élite. This year is the centenary of his death. This tournament is part of a programme of commemoration, ‘Remembering Amos’

15-round Swiss with all players competing in 1 section

All games FIDE and ECF rated

Rules for ranking, in order:

  1. Highest of FIDE blitz and ECF blitz rating (A or K).
  2. Highest of FIDE rapid and ECF rapid rating (A or K)
  3. Highest of FIDE standard and ECF standard rating (A or K)

For any entrant without a FIDE ID (FIN), you will be registered as ENG after the tournament. If you do not wish this to happen, you must be registered with another federation BEFORE playing.

TIME CONTROL

5 mins + 2 sec increment from move 1.

  • 3 performance prizes, £25 each

All place prize money will be shared equally between tied players.

Performance prizes for the highest W-We score, amongst players who haven’t won a place prize. Players without a rating are not eligible for a performance prize.

No player may win more than one money prize.

Junior Trophy is awarded to the junior who scores highest number of points.

We reserve the right to alter any and all prize money if entries fall below the expected level.
